Character

THE LOWER POWERS

Our promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand.

          • Emotions: "I like it", "Thats nice" Our emotions often work independently of our intellect or reason. ("I dont know why, but I dont like it") Emotions are usually not good guide.

          • Appetites: (clothes, cars,...) any kind of craze or craving is an appetite. Appetites have usually power and control over us.

          • Passions: "I must have it!", "I must do it!",I dont care!", "I am going to do that!" Often work independently.

          HIGHER POWERS

          • Intellect: the power of knowing as distinguished from the power to feel and to will, the capacity for knowledge

          • Reason: the power of comprehending, inferring, or thinking especially in orderly rational ways

          • Conscience: the sense of the moral goodness, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or good.

          Controlling our will

E.White: the will is the gowerning power in the nature of man. Everything depends on the right action of the will. We have to exercise our will. To say YES or NO.

The will is the part of the mind, where decisions are made.

Even the thoughts must be brought into subjection to the will of God, and the feelings under the control of reason and religion. Our imagination was not given us to be allowed to run riot and have its own way, without any effort at restraint and discipline. If the thoughts are wrong, the feelings will be wrong; and the thoughts and feelings combined make up the moral character.Strength of character consist of 2 things - power of will and power of self-control.

Philippians 2.13 "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

          SABBATH

Sabbath Hours Not Ours but God's. God has given us the whole of six days in which to do our work, and has reserved only one to Himself. This should be a day of blessing to us, a day when we should lay aside all our secular matters and center our thoughts upon God and heaven.

The Sabbath (or Sabbat) is a weekly day of rest and/or worship that is observed in the Judeo-Christian faiths. The term derives from the Hebrew shavat, "(to) cease". The term was first used in the biblical account of the last day of creation. It was repeated, as a commandment, as the fourth of the Ten Commandments.

The Roman Catholic church made the change over three centuries after calvary.

Question: Why do we observe sunday instead of saturday?

Answer: We observe sunday because the Catholic church in the council of Laodicea, transferred the solemnity from saturday to sunday.

(Peter Geiermann Convert´s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine)

In the law given from Sinai, God recognized the week, and the facts upon which it is based. After giving the command, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy," and specifying what shall be done on the six days, and what shall not be done on the seventh, he states the reason for thus observing the week, by pointing back to his own example: "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it." [EX. 20:8-11.]

On the seventh day man is to refrain from labor, in commemoration of the Creator's rest.

          Advise to prevent divorce

Prevention of a divorce is better than trying to heal the wounds of it. There are 7 good rules to prevent divorce, but before, not after marriage. Jesus taught his disciples to make serious consideration before marriage.
Today young people sometimes live together without being legally married, in fear of a divorce. But they are cheating themselves. Illegal marriages have the same problems, and separation of those equals divorce.
Courage to marry legally and after serious prayers is certainly preferable.

          1. If you want a Christian marriage, do not marry a non Christian or a nonconverted formal "believer"
          2. If your parents disagree with your choice, do not act against their will, before you have convinced them of the good character of your friend. Two families join together!
          3. Never marry someone who drinks alcohol, even only "for fun". Alcohol is the reason for most of the divorces.
          4. Watch the behaviour of the parents of your partner, how they treat each other. Later you will be treated like one of them.
          5. Are you and your friend able to budget your money? Monetary disorder leads often to divorce.
          6. Is your partner honest and sincere? If you cannot fully trust him or her, do not marry.
          7. Watch your friend in his or her job, is it done reliably and cooperatively? Marriage is a second job.

          Communication and negotiation

Analyses of others are actually expressions of our own needs and values.

Classifying and judging people promote violence.

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. For as you judge others, so you will yourself be judged. Matthew 7:1

We can never make people do anything.

Negotiation hard for your interests does not mean closed to the other side´s point of view. Quite the contrary. You can hardly expect other side to listen to your interests and discuss the options you suggest if you dont take their interests into account and show yourself to be open to their suggestions. Successful negotiation requires being both firm and open.

          Give thanks!

O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Ps. 105:1, 2.

          Then let us educate our hearts and lips to speak the praise of God for His matchless love. Let us educate our souls to be hopeful and to abide in the light shining from the cross of Calvary. Never should we forget that we are children of the heavenly King, sons and daughters of the Lord of hosts. It is our privilege to maintain a calm repose in God. {MH 253.1}
          "Let the peace of God rule in your hearts; . . . and be ye thankful." Colossians 3:15. Forgetting our own difficulties and troubles, let us praise God for an opportunity to live for the glory of His name. Let the fresh blessings of each new day awaken praise in our hearts for these tokens of His loving care. When you open your eyes in the morning, thank God that He has kept you through the night. Thank Him for His peace in your heart. Morning, noon, and night, let gratitude as a sweet perfume ascend to heaven. {MH 253.2}

Do not forget to give thanks before you eat!->

          What do we eat?

"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity." -Albert Einstein

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health" 3 John 1:2

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. "
          1 Corinthians 10:31

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29

The foods we consume on a daily basis affect our health more than anything else. Our skin protects us from the outside world, but what protects us when the outside world is internalized? All of the materials we need for survival (besides oxygen and sunlight) need to be ingested and then digested. The easiest way to take control of our health is to take control of what we eat. If you're doctors inform you that your health problems are not diet related, they could be wrong.
The foods of today are nothing like the foods of the past. Modern foods are laced with nitrates, preservatives, soy additives, plant byproducts, etc, and are heavily processed. Most livestock are pampered with high caloric feed, injected with hormones and antibiotics, and not allowed to graze, resulting in meat with different nutrients than those of wild game. Many of the modern foods touted as "healthy" didn't even exist in our ancestor's diet. It is important to realize that what the majority of people eat today is not optimized for our bodies, but optimized for convenience, taste, and preservation.

If you wish to remain healthy and avoid ailments of the digestive organs, particularly cancer, you'd be well advised to eliminate all processed food completely from your diet.

In the age of fast food, precooked frozen diners, packaged snacks, and other 'convenience food', abstaining from processed food may seem difficult, but in fact it's not.

It is just as quick to eat an apple as it is a package of potato crisps, just as convenient to have nuts and seeds and dried fruit for breakfast as packaged cereal with cow's milk, and just as easy to make an avocado sandwich as a hamburger. It's all a matter of habit.

Today, over 6,000 synthetic chemicals are officially condoned for use in the processed-food industry, including some that are known to have carcinogenic properties.

Furthermore, processed foods also contain high levels of the debilitating, denatured ingredients we wish to avoid, such as white sugar, refined starch, pasteurized cow's milk, land mined salt, and hydrogenated vegetable oils.

The human immune system correctly recognizes chemical food additives as toxic foreign agents and fights hard to rid the body of them, causing severe biochemical reactions and putting great stress on the immune system.

After years of daily exposure to such inorganic chemicals, the immune system finally breaks down and burns out, leaving the body vulnerable to attack by microbes, toxins, and cancerous cells.

Although the food industry has duped the public as well as government health agencies into believing that their products are safe for human consumption, there is abundant scientific evidence to the contrary, and this information is in the public domain, openly available to anyone who seeks it.

Ignorance is therefore no longer a valid excuse for poisoning yourself with industrially adulterated foods.

Australian study says processed foods may contribute to teen acne

Could a burger and fries bring on one of the biggest sources of teen acne?
A study of 43 young men from Australia finds changes in diet might reduce the severity of acne.Half of the men in the study ate a high-protein diet full of whole grains, fruit and vegetables. The others ate a typical western diet filled with processed foods. After three months, those on the high protein diet showed fewer break-outs.However, researchers caution that diet alone is likely not the only acne factor.

          MILK

In the world of nature, mammals consume milk for fast growth, and then they are weaned! Ask a cattleman-adult cows that insist on stealing milk from other cows are either cured or butchered! Now we are learning that milk, with its rich nutriments? For fast fast growth and heavy loads of saturated fat, growht-pushing hormones, and animal protein such as casein, is turning out to be a clear factor in causing metastatic cancer of the prostate. The Harvard health statistics group under the leadership of Dr. Willett has shown that one glass of cows milk per meal increased the risk of metastatic cancer of the prostate abut 40 percent in men. The harmful effect of meat is even greater, at 70 procent risk. Consumption of both dairy and meat caused 200 percent more risk of this common dangerous form of metastatic cancer! This basic finding has been confirmed from France, Australia, and Spain.
More incriminating evidence is reported, When teenage boys drink lots of milk, they get 66 percent more seminoma(cancer of testicles) for each 20 servins of milk per month! Sixty servings of milk would be about two glasses per day. Testicular cancer is not glamorous! This information ought to put quite a dent in the milk lobby´s massive promotional campaigns. Incidentally, contrary to what some might think, skim milk is still and animal food, which contains saturated fatty acids and is loaded with a second-class protein called casein.
Then there is the common skin cancer, called squamous cell carcinoma. Australia is famous for this sunburn-induced disease. Reporting in the International Journal of Cancer a research group from Queensland found that high intakes of dairy products increased the risk for this skin cancer 2.53 times.
A health writer of considerable moment wrote the following in 1899: „The light given me is that it will not be very long before we shall have to give up any animal food. Even milk will have to be discarded.“
